gIRTDespite half of the team being first-time varsity tennis players, the Brookfield Central Girls tennis team has a strong record of 14 wins to 7 losses. Currently, the team is ranked 12th in the state; and with a few more weeks left in the season, there are some great opportunities to move up. The team traveled all the way to Stoughton for an invite and placed 3rd with most of the team getting medals. The team also had very close losses to Arrowhead and DSHA, two of the top teams in the state.

The coming two years are looking extremely optimistic for the girls as the whole starting lineup will be experienced players in their positions. The team will most probably consist of all juniors and seniors, with the exception of Lili Del Campo (‘20) who will be a sophomore. Lili is only a freshman this year, but she definitely is not holding the team back. Being the second best player on the team, Lili holds an extremely strong record of 18 wins to 3 losses. When asked about being on the tennis team, she said, “I love being on Brookfield Central’s Varsity Tennis team! It is a great feeling knowing that there is a team holding your back on every situation in or out the tennis court.”

Many of the players this year had set their eyes on getting to state. Through rainy days and wet courts the players still worked hard working toward their goals in the wrestling room jump roping, working on volleys, and doing footwork drills.

This year, the team’s greatest challenges are clearly Brookfield East and Divine Savior. Although they suffered losses against both teams in the season already, they will have an opportunity to play them again soon, in subsectionals and sectionals.

With all of the hard work the team is putting in, lady lancers will put up a strong competition against the top teams in the state.
