While the chilly weather begins to set in, our favorite pumpkin-flavored sweets make the menu. We are all wondering: what spooky movies should we tune into this Halloween? While there are many great choices, it can be hard to decide what to watch. So, how about we give you a couple of recommendations?
Beginning our list at number #5 is Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982). Online sources state: “Hospital emergency room Dr. Daniel “Dan” Challis (Tom Atkins) and Ellie Grimbridge (Stacey Nelkin), the daughter of a murder victim, uncover a terrible plot by small-town mask maker Conal Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy), a madman who’s planning a Halloween mass murder utilizing an ancient Celtic ritual. The ritual involves a boulder stolen from Stonehenge, the use of Silver Shamrock masks and a triggering device contained in a television commercial—all designed to kill millions of children.” If that seems up your alley, tune into this interesting movie.
In 4th place, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Brought to life by the beloved Tim Burton, this movie is one of the most popular spooky films. Although an apt title for the gothic horror and dark fantasy genre, some of you might be thinking, “Why is a Christmas movie on our list?” Well, the story blends touches of both a Halloween feel and Christmas, combining both holidays into one amazing film. With the incorporation of a stellar soundtrack, this movie is a must-watch for all!
Coming up as #3 is Trick ‘r Treat (2007): “Interwoven stories demonstrate that some traditions are best not forgotten as the residents (Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker) of a small town face real ghosts and goblins on Halloween. Tales of terror reveal the consequences of extinguishing a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight and a grumpy hermit’s encounter with a sinister trick-or-treater.”
A very close runner up to first is Hocus Pocus (1993). This film truly encapsulates the feel of Halloween. It focuses on a teenage boy that awakens a trio of evil witches that end up causing lots of trouble. The plot progresses as he tries to fix the mistake he caused. With a name as fun as Hocus Pocus, this movie might be the one to watch on Halloween!
Last but not least, Halloween (1978). The Halloween movie of Halloween movies. A top-tier film that many have watched and enjoyed. It includes a classic horror movie villain, Michael Myers. Michale Myers is a chilling, horrific figure that has a very recognizable image: large stature, white mask, and deep, soulless eyeholes. A great movie for people who are looking for a more old-timey movie.
