The Brookfield Central girl’s golf team has had an incredible amount of success this season. They have taken top spots in all of their tournaments and have gone undefeated in their conference. Continuing their success, the girls qualified for state for the sixteenth time in the last seventeen years.

The state tournament was held on October 9th and 10th at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin, the home course for the University of Wisconsin Badger men’s and women’s golf teams. On Sunday, October 8, the team played a practice round to familiarize themselves with the course and adjust to the speed of the greens. All of the girls that participated in the state tournament have played at University Ridge in years past so the course was far from new to them.

On the first day of the tournament, the Lancers were led by Sophia Sun (‘18) and Emily Balding (‘18) who shot 81 and 75 respectively. This put the Lancer’s one shot behind Milton, in second place, with a team score of 326. On the final day of the tournament, the conditions were cold and rainy, but the Lancer were led Emily Balding (‘18) and Lexi Romero (‘18) who scored 79 and 81. This allowed the Lancers to finish with a total score of 664 and secure a 3rd place victory for the girls.

Team captain Emily Balding concluded a great senior season with low rounds at state, taking 5th place out of all of the girl golfers in the state of Wisconsin. “I’m so grateful to all of my teammates for always having fun with me and cheering me on, especially Sami, CJ, and Erin who came out to watch us at State. I couldn’t have asked for a better senior season, it was truly unforgettable,” said Balding.
