Julia Neustedter (‘22) races to the finish line at the Conference Meet.

On October 14, the Brookfield Central girls’ cross country team competed at the Greater Metro Conference Championship. Competing against ten other teams including across town rival, Brookfield East, the girls varsity team took first place and the JV team took third place. With sectionals approaching this upcoming week, the girls are training hard in hopes of making it to state.

Leah Neustedter (‘18) is back and competing again after the ankle injury that prevented her from running at two meets. At conference, Leah placed in the top 5, along with Abby Mauermann. Other seniors on varsity- Michelle Hirsch, Katie Smith, and Jessica Olson-have been on the team for four years and have improved throughout each season.

This season there has been many successful meets for the team. On September 9, at the Rocket Invitational at Grant Park, the varsity team placed third against 13 teams. At the Angel Invite at the UW Parkside course on September 16, both JV and Varsity took second place against the 33 Varsity teams and 21 JV teams. Many girls on the team had a faster time at the Eagle meet at UW Parkside the second time. During their two weeks of no meets the girls were strictly training for conference which was a success.

Brookfield Central Girls Cross Country has been Conference champions for 10 years-7 of which were consecutive- which is more than any other team in the conference. The team won Sectionals on Saturday, October 21, causing them to qualify for the state tournament. The Lancers took top places at the sectional meet. Good luck to the girls as they work towards state in the next few weeks. Go Lady Lancers!
