Athlete Feature: Georgina Eberle becomes a Hoya
Q: When did your first start playing field hockey?
A: I was introduced to field hockey in elementary school gym class. I started playing club in 7th grade when I moved to Maryland.
Q: Why did you choose Georgetown?
A: I chose Georgetown University because of their School of Foreign Service. It had the perfect balance of athletics and rigorous academics that I was looking for, and it has been my dream school for as long as I can remember. Plus I love DC, and I have family in the area.
Q: What do you think is the biggest challenge with playing field hockey?
A: Playing field hockey in Wisconsin is a challenge itself due to it not being a very popular sport [around] here. My team has to travel quite often and sometimes pretty far in order to get to some competitions.
Q: What do you love about field hockey?
A: It is really technical which I love. Playing with only one side of the stick requires a high level of corrdination, but [it] doesn’t take away from the pace of the game at all. There are also always more skills to learn which is really cool too.
Q: Could you tell us about an award or accomplishment related to field hockey?
A: Last year I was named one of the Top 50 field hockey players in the country for the class of 2018 by Maxfieldhockey, which was definitely unexpected and really exciting.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in your college field hockey career?
A: I am probably most excited about competing in the Big East and also getting to be a part of the Georgetown field hockey team culture. There is a huge support system among the girls which is really amazing.
Q: What scares you the most about playing field hockey in college?
A: I’m definitely most scared about the intense preseason and passing all of the required fitness tests. We’re not allowed to start practicing until we pass three fitness tests, so that’s a little nerve-racking because I definitely want to get started right away.
