Girls’ Swim and Dive Jumps into Action
The Brookfield Central Girls Swim and Dive team held their first full practice Aug. 18. This year, head coach William Twitchell is coaching Varsity and overseeing Junior Varsity once again. Although this remains the same, the JV coach changed once more, with Coach Irgens and Coach Williams taking the reigns. “Coach Irgens comes to us with background including the Elmbrook Swim Club as an age group swimmer, four years of high school swimming at Brookfield East, six years of age group coaching, as well as national level exposure, as an athlete, in Synchronized Swimming. Coach Williams is in his 57th season of coaching high school athletes,” Twitchell said.
On the third day of practice, the entire team showed up early to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. In addition to bonding together whilst freezing, the girls also got together for a bonfire and potluck dinner after their first win of the season at the Early Bird Invite, where they raced alongside ten other teams. In the end, Central took first in five events and second in three events out of 12, earning them first place overall by over 100 points.
