From Wednesday, November 29th, to Friday, December 8th, Brookfield Central High School’s Student Council engaged in fundraising efforts for the Christmas Clearing Council. Established in 1949, the Christmas Clearing Council has a long-standing tradition of connecting families unable to afford Christmas gifts with generous individuals and organizations willing to lend their support. For more than nine years, Brookfield Central has actively participated in this initiative, with this year’s involvement maintaining the school’s commitment to community service.
Each year, Student Council takes on the responsibility of sponsoring 5 families, striving to meet their needs during the holiday season. The general council members dedicate their time during 4th hour to visit classrooms and collect donations from students and teachers, aiming at a goal of $3,000. This process includes daily tallies of the funds raised as Lancers work eagerly towards achieving the target.
In an effort to heighten interest and boost participation, Christmas Clearing Council fundraising has transformed into a friendly competition among the 4th hour blocks. The objective is to see which class can raise the most money. To further incentivize the students, Student Council has introduced a reward system, offering the winning class a food prize. This year, the reward is a pizza and root beer float party. This innovative approach has not only made donating more engaging, but has also significantly contributed to the success of the fundraising.
After a busy week of collecting donations, the annual Christmas Clearing Council fundraiser has finally come to an end. Once again, Student Council has surpassed expectations by raising a total of $3,026. Pulling through at the very end, Coach Nellis’s class emerged as the leading class with over $300 raised. The eight-day fundraising event ended with Coach Nellis’s class in first, followed by Conway in second, and Gryzwa in third. Thanks to the hard work of our Student Council and numerous Lancers throughout the school, the Christmas Clearing Council fundraiser ended on a positive note and solidified the impact of Brookfield Central’s students and staff on the community.
In the coming week, Student Council’s executive board will be shopping for the five sponsored families, ensuring that each family receives thoughtfully selected gifts. All council members will partake in a wrapping session to wrap the gifts before they are delivered to the eagerly awaiting children. This year’s successful Christmas Clearing Council stands to prove the spirit of community and generosity that thrives within the school. As the festive season approaches, Brookfield Central celebrates not only their achievement but also the joy of spreading happiness. Happy Holidays!
