From April 27th to May 1st, 27 Brookfield Central DECA members participated in the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) held in Anaheim, California. All 27 members of Brookfield Central earned the opportunity to participate in the International Conference due to the hard work put in throughout their role plays, tests, and/or presentations. Since the State Career Development Conference (SCDC), qualifiers have committed time and effort to revising their projects, reprinting posters, practicing roleplays, and presenting to their peers.
Over twenty thousand high school students, advisors, businesspersons, and alumni from around the world gathered to develop their knowledge and skills for college and careers. Competitors participated in Marketing, Finance, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, and more events. Although no members from Brookfield Central finalized, each individual further developed their professional skills and could present to judges on an international level.
ICDC competitors were interviewed regarding how they prepared for their competitive events. Junior and first-year DECA member, Jashvardhan Mirani (’25) stated, “To prepare for the competitive event, I practiced my presentation with my partner a few times and tried to articulate information from my essay for the project into my presentation.”
Aside from the competitive aspect of DECA, members visited Disneyland, Beverly Hills, and the Walk of Fame. Swara Inamdar (’25) said that her favorite memory about ICDC was meeting other DECA members at Disneyland because she could collect pins from other states and countries and build new connections.
While most of the chapter was out and about, Wisconsin DECA Vice President of Brand Management and Brookfield Central junior Ashriya Rajesh (’25) spent almost all her time with the rest of the Wisconsin DECA state officer team. The officers were in charge of managing ICDC logistics, pursuing WI DECA initiatives, connecting with other DECA associations, and promoting a sense of community amongst Wisconsin chapters. Rajesh commented, “It was cool to meet a lot of different association officers and see how different associations worked. We mostly dealt with the logistics side of ICDC, so it was nice to have a new perspective. Finally, seeing not only our chapter but all of Wisconsin shine was amazing!”
Brookfield Central DECA continues to prove itself as one of the most dominant chapters in Wisconsin with 27 international qualifiers, a slight improvement from last year’s 23 qualifiers. Through taking opportunities in DECA, students have been able to substantially improve their professional skills and demonstrate their strengths in real-life applications.
