Girls tennis has had a stellar season this year, with multiple teams placing high in both Invites and the Greater Metro Conferences (GMC) for Varsity and JV. The 2024 season lasted from early August to mid-October. The program has 80 players split into five teams: Varsity, Varsity Reserve, JV Silver, JV Blue, and JV White. Many rising stars took home wins for the Lady Lancers.
Varsity had a great sectional and conference, winning over schools such as Nicolet and Lake Geneva Badger, and having multiple players take places in the GMC. The improvement seen from the girls this season was overwhelming, with numerous wins secured throughout the season. The Varsity team is led by Coaches Jon Vogt in his 5th year as head coach and Maheswar Tiwari. Both are amazing coaches and are strongly dedicated to their team. Varsity players with their first wins this year are Marika Carvalho (‘25), Emma Danowski (‘26), Stella Hu (‘26), Maddie Lindberg (‘27), Rhea Maheshwari (‘27), Tess Pierce (‘27), McKaela Smith (‘28), and Akshita Tyagi (‘28). Varsity will also be saying goodbye to 4 outstanding seniors: Sadhaya Senthilkumar, Ange Nassalang, Marika Carvalho, and Sophia Landis.
As of writing this article, doubles partners Sophia Landis (‘25) and Ishani Nayak (‘26) and singles player McKaela Smith (‘28) are heading to state. They qualified after playing many matches in both sectionals and sub-sectionals. They will be competing in the WIAA Girls Tennis Individual Championship at Nielsen Stadium in Madison, which will be taking place October 17-19. This marks Ishani and Sophia’s second year of qualifying for state and an impressive first for McKaela.
A successful season was also in the sights of Varsity Reserve, winning their Oshkosh invite. 2 singles players and 2 doubles teams took 1st place home. The team, composed of 15 players, had a fantastic record of 12-4, with standout players being Eli and Espi Rowe (‘26) with a personal record of 22-1 doubles wins, and Aly Schnetzky (‘28) taking 1st place in 1 Singles in the JV Greater Metro Conference. They took 2nd in their GMC tournament under coach Steve Zanoni, who has been coaching at BC for the past 3 years.
With overall amazing records, the Lady Lancers season comes to an end with many exciting team achievements and three skilled players going to state.
