With Halloween 2024 landing on a Thursday, two “Halloweekends” occurred, offering plenty of opportunities to celebrate the holiday by dressing up. This year, many costumes were done again and again, but some were incredibly creative and never seen before. With costumes spanning from pop culture references to jungle animals, these are this year’s most popular.
Female Costumes:
One of this year’s biggest costumes for women stems from a trend in fashion that has been present throughout the year: animal print. Instagram feeds were full of girls decked out in cheetah, zebra, and tiger prints, often topped off with animal ears. As it is a simple and fairly cheap costume to put together, these jungle animals were a hit this Halloween.
Another fairly common group of costumes was pop stars. Taylor Swift was a frequent one as there are so many different ways to do it, whether it be a couples costume including Travis Kelce, or an outfit from the Era’s Tour. Sabrina Carpenter was also rather popular as there are many tour and music video outfits to choose from. One costume that took TikTok by storm was Ke$ha. With her iconic blonde, curly, blue-highlighted hair, her sleazy outfits, and her intense makeup featuring tons of glitter, this was another pretty replicable look. Most female costumes from this year, as well as the past few years, have featured the “Amazon corset”.
Group Costumes:
With the release of Wicked coming up, many duos dressed as the iconic witches: Glinda and Elphaba. Glinda costumes featured pink dresses, tiaras, and wands, while Elphaba costumes highlighted her green skin and pointy witch hat. Another group costume inspired by a recent movie, was the characters from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Large groups dressed as just about every character from the movie, Beetlejuice himself, Lydia, Miss Argentina, the list goes on.
