The week before homecoming is always filled with exciting events and school spirit. Homecoming Spirit week is a highlight of the season, filled with daily dress-up challenges for students and teachers alike, and even a movie night for some of the cinephiles out there. The festivities built up excitement leading up to Saturday, the day of Homecoming.
Monday’s theme was Teacher-Student Swap, with some students donning formal wear fit for teaching while teachers tried their best to impersonate 16-year olds, making for quite an interesting scene in the hallways.
Tuesday’s theme kept in with the overarching theme of Hollywood for Homecoming with Stunt Double Day, otherwise known as twin day, a classic for Central spirit weeks. Twin days usually have many participants, and Tuesday was none different.
Wednesday was another classic – and very enjoyable – pajama day, which again garnered lots of student and teacher participation. Pajama day remains one of the most popular spirit days for BC, mainly because of the opportunity for students to dress casually and comfortably in a place where some may usually not. There was also an outdoor movie night on Wednesday, where Disney’s Cars was shown on a big screen outside BC’s tennis courts, with treats such as popcorn for the moviegoers.
Thursday was Decades Day, with different grades assigned to different decades: Seniors – 2000’s, Juniors – 1990’s, Sophomores – 1980’s, Freshman 1970’s, and the staff – 1960’s. Unsurprisingly, Thursday seemed to be the day with the least amount of school participation.
Finally, Friday’s theme was the traditional class colors, with the Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman wearing their respective colors of purple, blue, gray, and white. Participation surged again with it being easier for most students to obtain and wear their class colors. The theme also provided an absurdly helpful use for some students. “Now I can tell who is in which grade,” an anonymous student commented on seeing students in their class colors. Friday was also anything but a backpack day for seniors, with fun alternative options seen being carried through the hallways such as a microwave, wagons, picnic baskets, and in one such case, Santa’s sack.
All in all, Homecoming spirit week was a refreshing change after starting a new school year, and for freshmen a whole new school. And of course, Homecoming capped off the week, bringing the festivities to an eventful end.
