Brookfield Central has quite recently changed its grading system to a ten point grading system, meaning that the letter grades are in increments of ten. Most students think that this is a change for the greater good because it is easier to understand, and grades that would have been for example a high B are now a low A.
A general majority of the student body say that this is a positive change to the BC education system because of the slight aid that is given, which can be the difference between one grade and another. “I think the new grading scale is good for a lot of students. It doesn’t really affect my grades a lot compared to last year but who knows, maybe it will benefit me more this year” (Malin McMath). As shown, this new grading system at the beginning of the year might not be as influential, but as the school year starts to get into full swing it might turn out useful to many students even if it is not already.
This grading system also makes more sense then BC’s previous one because the numbers line up in perfect increments of ten. A ten point grading system also allows for a more percise representation of a student’s educational progress and shows a detailed statistical analysis. The ten point grading scale, according to students, allows for a better understanding of a 0-10 grade. A ten point grading scale also has a finer difference between grades because of the difference between them.
All in all, according to most of the student body the new ten point grading scale is easier to understand and is helpful for aiding the letter grade or as a safety net. The BC education system has drastically improved from this decision.
