Chat GPT: Innovative or Invasive

Analyzing the implications of this futuristic technology

Technology has continued to amaze society and make life even easier than it has been. Now, our times are no different with the introduction of ChatGPT. With little hype surrounding the software, the launch of the phenomenon took society by surprise. Professors in the field of computer science for decades to high school students were all stunned by the functions of the new software. ChaptGPT by OpenAI serves as an artificial intelligence with the memory of almost all data across the Internet. It can act as a search engine but also execute commands; a feature that has brought into question the invasiveness of the software. You can ask almost any software to code the most complex sequences, write four-page essays in the exact tone and topic you would like, and describe the instructions to practically do anything. Naturally, this new technology has come with excitement and fear for the repercussions of ChatGPT.

The main battleground for ChatGPT is in the education field. Students can now have essays done for them with a simple sentence command; and a paper perhaps beyond their intelligence is produced. This can cause problems as there is an exponential increase in the ability to bypass the walls of academic honesty. Students will be less inclined to learn as grades are pressed as more and more important, and, as a result, would not hesitate to use the tools around them. Professors and teachers will have to adapt to still force students to process and understand material. Take-home assignments are not as easy to hand out anymore, and reading papers will require possible new software to check for plagiarism. The immediate outlash has already prompted many groups to code software specialized to trace elements of ChatGPT usage. However, ChatGPT can also manipulate problems that masters in their respective fields struggle with solving. With the entire internet as its foundational thinking, it can extract information from all around the world and analyze for the best efficient solutions based on past trials. However, studies have shown troubling signs of ChatGPT creating false statements from actual sources in order to fit their claim. This is still the beginning process for the AI and will certainly undergo further improvements and debugging. To understand the limits of ChatGPT, here are some of the tasks it’s able to do: pass the bar exam, create a test, code for any functioning command, and write ten-plus pages in any context of history that the Internet has tracked down.

Overall, the software is still in the elementary steps, so consumers should be wary. A question of invasiveness is not very practical, because ChatGPT has arrived and that’s a fact. It’s up to you, the people, to decide if you want to sit on the sidelines or explore the incredible feats of AI in current times.
