Ben Geibl (soccer, UW Platteville), Sam Ockwood (football, Winona State), Thomas Gibson (football, Winona State), Jordan Hoehnen (football, UW La Crosse), Sarah Pasternak (soccer, University of St. Thomas) have committed to continuing their athletic careers on the collegiate level.

Being an athlete is not easy. Being a collegiate level athlete is that much more challenging. Six senior athletes at Brookfield Central will be embarking on this challenging journey this coming fall. Sarah Pasternak (soccer), Jordan Hoehnen (football), Jaiden Banda (football), Sam Ockwood (football), Ben Geibl (soccer), and Thomas Gibson (football) have all signed their letters of intent, committing to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
This fall these six athletes will be representing Brookfield Central in a variety of locations. Pasternak will be attending University of St.Thomas, MN and Banda will be close by at Bemidji State, MN. Gibson and Ockwood will both be attending Winona State, MN. Geibl will be attending UW Platteville, WI and Hoehnen will be at UW La Crosse, WI.
This talented group of students has made remarkable athletic achievements during their four years at BCHS. Pasternak has been starting varsity goalkeeper for two consecutive years and has also been recognized with two awards: Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2015 and 2nd Team All-Conference in 2016. Gibson was chosen as the Greater Metro Conference (GMC) 2016 Offensive Back Athlete of the Year. Geibl has been awarded with 2nd Team All Conference in 2016.
Making the decision of which college to attend was not easy for these extraordinary athletes. Senior Ben Geibl said, “The most challenging part is finding which one fits you the best.” There are many other factors that come into play when choosing a college. Affordability, campus life, locality, academics are just few of the factors these athletes have to consider before making their decision. Thomas Gibson who will be attending Winona State this fall said, “I chose Winona State because I loved the energy there and the business program.” Fellow teammate Sam Ockwood who will also be attending Winona State said, “I picked Winona St. because it has an awesome campus right next to the Mississippi River. It is affordable and I really liked my future coaches and teammates.” Ben Geibl committed to UW-Platteville because the university has a great engineering program and because he loved the campus.
As hard as it can be to take this next big step, there is also a lot to look forward to. “I am most looking forward competing against other really good athletes.” said football player Sam Ockwood. The athletes are also looking forward to being able to continue their athletic career at a higher level.
These athletes have made Brookfield Central proud and are sure to continue to. Congratulations and best of luck to these six athletes!
