Brookfield Central’s class of 2028’s class council is full of confident inventors who are engaged in what they’re doing. To look further into the class council board, we have interviewed the class president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and liaison.
Let’s start with our dedicated president, Hawwa Hassan! Now you might be wondering what inspired her to run for president – Hawwa was inspired by her older sister, who served on class council during her high school years. Hawwa loved how class council got the amazing opportunity to plan prom and events that connect the entire class: “To me, this sounded so fun and exciting! The idea of having the capability to bring our class together sounded so amazing!” Furthermore, when asked what she thinks makes a great class president, Hawwa explained that a great class president should care about their classmates. She strives to meet the needs of the class and find solutions. She believes “the class president should be someone who is kind enough to talk and bond with any of their classmates, and also enough of a leader to guide their class to success.” Overall, Hawwa will dedicate herself to being the sophomore class president and will always be persistent in helping our class reach its full potential.
Moving on to our next interview for the vice president, Payton Delany. Payton explains her responsibilities as assisting Hawwa in planning and organizing fundraisers for our school, and occasionally steps in for Hawwa. On top of all that, Payton is the one to inform the rest of the council about these events. Another question Payton was asked was “What do you think makes an effective class council?” Her response to this question was: “To make a more informed group and to make sure that peers understand what is going on in the school.” Along with making sure her peers understand, she also receives feedback from her peers about new ideas or changes that could be made. Overall, Payton is a very inclusive vice president.
Now let’s move on to our next member, Julia Stawski! The first question we asked her was, “How does your work behind the scenes help make our school events successful?” She explains that a lot of critical thinking goes into how they make decisions. For example, she describes how when they execute a fundraiser, the items chosen have gone through significant revision to adjust to what the students would react positively to. Now you might be wondering what the responsibilities of the secretary might exactly be: “My main duties as the Class Council Secretary are to facilitate communication between the council and the rest of the student body.” Specifically, to get all the details, she takes minutes at all the meetings and assures that any motions taken are agreed upon by all members. Julia is sure to continue her success moving forward, connecting the student body through her attention to detail!
Next, we interviewed Rohit Shetty, who is the treasurer for our class council. Rohit was inspired to become a treasurer because he is excellent in working with numbers and problem solving, which is a good fit for a treasurer because money is in his hands. Additionally, Rohit’s response to the question “What qualities make someone a great treasurer?” was that he believes a great treasurer is “someone who’s responsible, honest, and pays attention to details. You have to be good at keeping track of things and making sure everything adds up, but also be open about what’s going on with the budget. It’s not just about handling money, but it’s about being someone people can trust to make smart decisions for everyone.” Rohit’s attention to detail and strong sense of commitment keep our class’s finances organized and precise.
For our last interview, we interviewed Sam Bergin, our class liaison. As the role of a liaison, Sam reports to the rest of the class about information. Sam believes his contribution to class council will be “bringing strong communication and teamwork skills to every project we take on.” He works on keeping everyone on the same page and making sure that they’re all understood. Adding on, Sam works to have everyone included in fundraisers and make them entertaining for them. Sam has accomplished a lot as a liaison, but his most proud accomplishment was “making sure student opinions were actually heard and used in decision-making.” Sam brings the people’s opinions and feedback into meetings, to help spread them around. This is an awesome accomplishment because it brings all of Brookfield Central together.
Brookfield Central’s sophomore class council is made up of a group of hardworking, passionate, and dedicated students who each individually contribute in their own unique way. From Hawwa’s inspiring leadership and compassion to Payton’s inclusivity and communication skills, each member has an important role in keeping the class connected. Through Julia, she keeps the council connected, while Rohit ensures all the finances are balanced with precision. Lastly, Sam strengthens the council by ensuring every student’s voice is heard. Together, this talented council is bound to make Brookfield Central’s sophomore class a more connected community.
