On May 22, 2026, Brookfield Central held its 22nd annual Fine Arts Extravaganza, celebrating the creativity of students and staff. The day featured many fun events thanks to Mrs. Capriolo and her dedicated art students.
Teachers signed up for activity sessions showcasing many forms of art for their students. This included mural painting, stencil art, drawing, and demonstrations from visual art students. This day was a welcome break from schoolwork for students waiting to wrap up the year. “Bracelet making was super fun and relaxing,” said BC freshman Viviann. “I was able to make bracelets with my friend and got a chance to express my creativity.”
Artwork from the whole year was on display around the school including the front lobby, art hallway, and library. Some classes went on walking tours of the various styles and mediums of art on display, while other students stopped by to admire the art on their way to classes or during lunch.
It wasn’t all visual arts either! Fine Arts Extravaganza featured several performing arts groups such as the studio show, a band skills workshop, and performances from Chamber Choir, Symphonic Band, and Women’s Choir.
The Studio Show, run by director Dan Pronley, featured scenes from BC Theater’s next season, including the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Mamma Mia, and The Government Inspector, as well as WSMA State Musical Theater Solos and several SNL skits. The senior actors also performed for the last time in the song “When I Grow Up,” a callback to their freshman-year show. In addition to the day shows, the actors performed two evening shows at 5 and 7 PM.
To wrap up the fantastic day of performances and creative endeavors, BC gathered for an assembly to recognize the awards that BC students received for their artwork this year. Opening with a performance by the BC Chamber Orchestra led by Mr. Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Capriolo went on to recognize the multitude of Scholastic Honorable Mentions, Silver Keys, and Gold Keys that students had won for all types of artwork. Then, the cast and crew of the fall musical Something Rotten were recognized for their Outstanding Musical Award from the Jerrys. Finally, after a marching game with several administrative staff members, the Jazz band performed a song after eating some hot sauce.
All in all, the 22nd Fine Arts Extravaganza was an excellent way to celebrate the talented artists, writers, and musicians at BCHS as we near the end of school. From collaborative activities and displays to performances by various musical and theatrical groups, the day provided a wonderful celebration of art at BC.
