On Wednesday, May 27th, the BC community held one of their most beloved traditions. During the week of the Spring Fling Dance, the school hosts an all-school outdoor picnic. Contrary to the name, this function is anything but a quaint picnic. The Brookfield Central Picnic is a bustle of energy, community, and joy. It channels the stir-crazy energy of read-for-summer students, allowing them to have fun and reduce the stress of upcoming finals. The picnic is a way to destress and unwind while having amazing food with your friends.
The weather was ideal for the picnic, with beautiful temperatures at 85 degrees. While many students prepared to enjoy a free period outside in the sun, others ended up with a tan that went further than they wanted. However, the sun did not deter everyone from standing in line for food. With only 9 vendors for over 1,000 students, patience was key.
Many different cuisines were represented at this picnic. Vendors like Vocado, Shorty’s Grilled Cheese, and Margarita Paradise had filling classics, Shawarma House had savory bites, and Joy Ice Cream and Bubble Tea Bar had sweet treats. Some students were concerned about the lines of some of these vendors. The fact that students only had a 90-minute block meant that, if your teacher didn’t gracefully allow early release, there was a real threat of leaving the picnic area on an empty stomach. In addition to the great variety of vendors, there was also a stunning array of club displays. The culture club definitely brought celebrating the 2026 BC community to the center stage. The club served halo halo, a popular Filipino dessert filled with flan, evaporated milk, shaved ice, and mixed fruit jellies. Not only was this dessert the star of the picnic, but it also fed the demand for an alternative cold treat that didn’t include a 50-person line.
The spring picnic festivities didn’t stop there. School spirit was amplified by games and activities from different clubs. Notably, the film club hosted quote trivia, which my friends thoroughly enjoyed. Games such as the guessing jar also brought interactiveness to the picnic. The picnic featured a range of talent, from game hosts to artists; members of the culture club skillfully created beautiful henna art for students of all ages and backgrounds.
And even if you found yourself exhausted by the day, you could always spread out a towel on the football turf and get ready for a relaxing time with your friends and good food. Ultimately, the picnic was truly an enjoyable experience to wrap up the school year with wonderful memories!
