Brookfield Central offers a wide variety of sports for students to participate in, including basketball, baseball, volleyball, and football. However, BC sadly doesn’t offer bowling to studente as an optional sport. Most Lancers that want to participate in bowling either join the team at Brookfield East or play for a club.
Bowling is a very unique sport that should be recognized more by high school students. Many students bowl but don’t know how to participate or who to go to because BC doesn’t have a team. That is why BE should have a more advertised bowling team. This could be done by flyers around both schools or more daily announcements regarding the team. Bowling is a very diverse sport, so it makes sense for it to be in the public eye more. Bowling allows for people of all skill levels to play. It is also co-ed, making it more inclusive. Bowling is a very low commitment hobby if you are looking for something to do.
Bowling has a very interesting history, traceable back to ancient Egypt around 5,000 BC. Bowling started as simple as throwing or rolling stones at other objects with intent to knock them over. Then, in Germany, a form of bowling became a religious ritual called kegal; this was supposed to clear them from sin. Bowling became popular around 1900 and eventually became a summer Olympic event in 1988.
Bowling is a very interesting sport that has been around in some form for centuries. It is very diverse and should be recognized by more people as a fun and low commitment hobby, especially at BC.
