The Christmas Carol at the Pabst Theater is a magical experience that my family and I look forward to every winter. We have been going for five years, and it has become one of our favorite holiday traditions. Every year, we take a family picture in front of the very tall and famous Christmas tree inside the theater. It is always exciting to see how big it feels and how festive everything looks.
The show itself is always amazing. It usually starts with two characters who help tell the story from the original book. They explain what is going to happen and guide the audience through the story. One of the best parts at the beginning is when they interact with the audience. They go through the alphabet and ask people to come up with words to describe Scrooge. This part is funny and gets everyone involved right away.
When I say the show is magical, I really mean it. One of the most unforgettable moments is when the Ghost of Christmas Past takes Ebenezer Scrooge back into his past. During this scene, fake snow falls from the balcony, which is two stories high. Seeing the snow fall over the audience makes the entire theater feel like a winter wonderland. It is one of those moments that makes everyone stop and stare.
The actors work very hard to keep the audience awake and engaged. They ask questions and repeat them until people respond. This makes the audience feel like they are part of the show instead of just watching it. The set pieces and costume designs are also incredible. Everything looks detailed and carefully made, which makes the story feel even more real and magical.
Another fun part is when the cast runs through the audience while entering for their scenes. They say “Merry Christmas” to people as they pass by, which makes the experience feel personal and exciting. There is also a moment when characters say “good afternoon,” and the audience sometimes laughs because of the movie Spirited with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. In that movie, “good afternoon” in their time period basically means a curse word, so people find it funny.
To wrap it all up, I was not the only BC family there. I also saw Mr. Groshek, which was really cool. Seeing people you know at an event like that makes it even more special. Overall, the Christmas Carol at the Pabst Theater is a tradition I hope my family keeps for many more years.
