BC Ski Team leaves gates strong

The Brookfield Central ski team, who started training at the end of December, has had a great start to their 2014-2015 season. Ski team members, who practice on Sunday nights at Ausblick Ski Hill in Sussex, compete in slalom and giant slalom competitions.  The no-cut sport has both boys and girls teams that compete on both the JV and varsity levels.  There are six regular season races, occurring weekly on either Wednesday or Thursday nights, with the potential for additional post-season races. These races take place at various ski hills in Wisconsin, such as Alpine Valley, Little Switzerland, and Sunburst.

Ski team member Allison Hartwig had nothing but positive words to say regarding the start of the season and the successes of the team in general.

Q: How has the season been going so far?

A: The season is going great so far! We were supposed to have two meets the week of January 5th, but they were moved to the week or January 12th, so our first and second meets of the season were Sunday, January 11th and Monday, January 12th. They both went really well, for me personally and as a team. Ben Peterson, our best boy varsity racer, finished third overall on the 11th and first overall on the 12th.

Q: What are you looking forward to in the rest of the season?

A: Personally, I’m looking forward to improving my turns and technique and getting faster times throughout the season. Also, there are a ton of new faces on the team and I would love to get to know them all! As a team, I just want us to all have fun!

Q: What is the best part about being on ski team?

A: The best part for me is the team aspect, there are so many people that I would probably never meet or talk to that I get to know from the team. We are all ski lovers just having a good time, and even though there is competition it is very relaxed and very fun!

If Allison’s answers are any indication, BC’s ski team is off to a great start and will surely have many future successes in the remainder of the season. Good luck to all ski team members!
