Michael Long (’22) on making waves with his UW-Madison signing

Michael Long (‘22), a senior at Brookfield Central, is now a competitive swimmer for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Michael was absolutely ecstatic to talk about how he was finally able to fulfill his dream that he didn’t realize was achievable as we interviewed him: “It feels epic, I can’t really describe it in words.” Michael shared that his favorite memory of swimming was over the summer at the Speedo Summer Championships meet where he swam the 100 meter backstroke and made the Olympic cutoff. It was a bittersweet moment since he accidentally had a false start, but he enjoyed it since he had his future team cheering him on. When asked about his future plans outside of swimming at Madison, Long said that he applied to Madison’s business school and that he also wants to minor in musical theater. He wants to double major, although doesn’t know if he would be able to double major while being an athlete.
