The iconic competition of Mr. BC has made its way to the Class of 2027. While it primarily serves as a prom fundraiser for the junior class, it is also a long standing tradition. This year, the prom court will also be announced at the competition! Contestants Augie England, Amery Meyer, Jacob Brunner, Richard Ndubuisi, and Jake Wasielewski are each set to perform a unique talent sure to wow the judges, along with a variety of interview questions and tasks.
Performing their talent first was Amery Meyer. He showed the judges and audience the spectacular feat of bench pressing 225 lbs for 4 reps!
Following Amery was Jacob Brunner. Jacob performed his rendition of Piano Man by Billy Joel, and sang wonderfully while also playing the harmonica and the piano!
Next was Richard Ndubuisi. He showcased his talent for the electric guitar!
Augie England then brought smiles to the faces of everyone in the audience with a hilariously awkward stand up comedy routine including his best impression of a dog.
And finally, Jake Wasielewski performed a variety of his original songs in an elevated performance that even incorporated fog machines.
During the break in competition, I spoke with long time judge Mr. Dapelo. When asked what his strategy was in scoring the gentlemen he responded: “I don’t really have a strategy,” and when asked what he thought about the talents performed he said, “They were… eclectic.” And that certainly encompasses all that we saw tonight.
After so much talent showcased by the young men in running for the title, it was truly anyone’s crown but after counting up all the points, Mr. Jacob Brunner was crowned as the Class of 2027’s Mr. BC. We followed up with Jacob after his coronation. He said that winning Mr. BC felt great and that it is an honor to represent the school. Knowing he was up against “the fiercest group of competitors” he’s even gone against, he had to trust himself and stick to the plan ultimately leading him to his victory. And when asked what led him to choose the talent he did, he said, “I chose this talent because my family has listened to me practice it a thousand times so I thought it was my time to showcase it finally. I would also like to thank my mom and dad for not getting angry with me blasting piano man throughout the house and supporting my musical journey.” So this win goes out to you Mr. and Mrs. Brunner!
The Mr. BC event is truly so special and was incredibly fun to watch. I can only hope the tradition lives on for generations to come. Congrats to Jacob and the rest of the talented competitors!
