Girl’s Tennis Banquet

The Brookfield Central Lady Lancers on the varsity tennis team worked hard and succeeded in the 2023 season, which started in August and ended in the second week of October. Throughout their season, they dedicated time to improve their skills after school, ranging from groundstrokes to strategy.

Exceptional performances were seen by all tennis players this season. Sophia Landis (‘25) and Ishani Nayak (‘26) represented Brookfield Central at the WIAA Girls Tennis Individual State Tournament, hosted at Nielsen Stadium from October 12th to 14th. Ishani Nayak reflects on her experience: “It was a great experience and a nice opportunity to see players of different levels from all over the state”. Ishani and Sophia used the skills they worked on at practice and years of hard work to defeat their opponents in the first round; 6-3, 6-3.

This is Coach Jon Vogt’s 10th year working with BC tennis and his 4th year as the head coach for the girls’ tennis program. He enjoyed coaching this season because “All the players had been on the team last year, so the whole team had chemistry and was very cohesive. They all worked well together and were very successful”.

The players celebrated their achievements at their banquet, which was held at Western Racquet Club. Sadhaya Senthilkumar (‘25) enjoyed “continuing the tradition of watching a montage of videos recorded throughout the season at the banquet”. This year, Sophia Landis (‘25) and Ava Migliano (‘25) earned the title of Co-MVPs, recognized for their dedication, hard work, and perseverance on the court. Grace Tran (‘24) shares advice for aspiring Varsity players: “Being on Varsity is a huge commitment because you have to miss school so time management is important but it is a very great experience”.

Additionally, the Brookfield Central tennis program will be saying goodbye to 7 senior Lancers: Sariya Benslimane, Naisha Arredondo Gupta, Hailee Hansen, Yasmeen Kaloti, Aleeza Sonderman, Amelia Stalter, and Grace Tran. At the end of their season, players on the team voted for their 2023 captains — Sariya Benslimane and Yasmeen Kaloti. Sariya says her favorite memory from tennis was “going to the Madison West tournament and going to Target to buy brooms to sweep the water off the courts”.

Overall, the Lady Lancers had a great season filled with great moments on the court, learning, and new memories!
