With the commitment window winding down for senior high school athletes, Brookfield Central features six, including DI and DIII commits.
Among these talented athletes is Joseph Lewcock, attending St. Norbert’s College in the fall for soccer.
Lewcock has racked up a number of accolades throughout his journey, from 4 varsity letters and the SC Wave’s Elite MLS Next program.
He also boasts the title of being Central’s team captain for the boys’ 2023 fall season, dominating and creating as a striker and winger. His ability to read the game, make incisive passes, and create chances had contributed to the boys’ success throughout the WIAA Boys’ Soccer Tournament, including a thrilling regional win against Sheboygan North. However, the regional final against Hartford would prove to be more difficult — but Lewcock was ready. His conversion of a penalty kick brought the Lancers to a 1-0 victory in the first half of overtime and would set them up for their sectional semifinal against crosstown rivals and #1-ranked Brookfield East.
Soccer has been a constant throughout his life; Lewcock’s earliest memories begin at just four years old, playing for Brookfield Soccer Club. When asked about a distinct memory from high school, Lewcock explained, “Making Varsity as a freshman was a goal I had leading up to high school so that was a big moment for me…in club playing at a high level with very good players and playing very good teams such as IMG academy and more”.
Participation in MLS Next also allowed him to follow his dream to play collegiately through exposure to various scouts. While the recruitment process is markedly stressful, Lewcock found that the process was “straightforward”. After his junior year of high school soccer, he began creating highlight tapes, but it wasn’t until the following spring (during club season) that he was able to connect with various college scouts. A few visits and talks later, Lewcock had a couple other offers, but knew St. Norbert’s was his top choice. It had everything he needed — quality facilities, the major of his choice, and a well-rounded team and coaching staff.
The standout striker doesn’t forget what helped him along the way; Lewcock attributes his success to his high school and club coaches, as well as his teammates who supported and pushed him to get better.
He hopes to continue playing the sport he loves, meet new teammates, and win some trophies up in De Pere.
