The girls volleyball team won their regional championships against Pewaukee, ending in a close game to set 5, with the final score 15-13. They have a team composed largely of seniors, with a few juniors and some talented sophomores. The senior composition of the team is making the most of their final lancer volleyball season, especially with this hard earned victory placing them first regionally. They’ve won 29 of their games this season. Spectators have noticed their work this season, especially during the last game of the season, with one noting that “It was a close game, and the Lancers worked hard.” The skill it takes to go five in a volleyball set, and the tiredness felt at the end isn’t easily overcome. It takes a lot of work to still have energy to overcome such a closely talented team as Pewaukee, and the Lancer girls pulled it off in style.
According to MaxPreps, an online website designed to track statistics, the players are on a massive roll this season, having won 10 of the 11 games they’ve played recently, and the Pewaukee game was the closest they’ve cut it this season. They play Division One for the WIAA, which makes this incredible streak something to boast of, considering formidable opponents such as DSHA, Hamilton and Brookfield East are competing against them. The team, of which majority play club in the off season, has had the typical setbacks of injury, difficult losses, and the knowledge that for some of them, this is their last season playing, ever. While challenges like these may set a team back, the Central team has only pushed forward, showing the hard work of Lancers and their can-do attitude.
Many of the incredibly talented players have played anywhere from a national to regional level, but their true dedication comes from the fact they were all brought together to play an incredible season. They will be introducing the upcoming freshman to big shoes to fill with one of their better seasons. Hopefully, they can live up to the current regional champion steps. The current juniors and sophomores on the team will live up to this challenge, guiding the legacy that they are helping to create with hopeful big success. Up next, they face Oconomowac in a bid for one of their most incredible seasons in recent years. Brookfield Central sports are certainly well represented this season in volleyball. Good luck girls and go Lancers!
