This year’s prom brought the aesthetics and energy of the Roaring Twenties to BC with a “Great Gatsby” theme. The gold-accented decor and flapper-style headpieces contributed to an exciting atmosphere throughout the night, making for a memorable event that the junior class was able to enjoy.
The success of the evening was largely due to the hard work of the junior class council. Ellery Gaedtke, the class council treasurer, shared that the planning process was a combination of creativity and hard work. After the votes came in and they decided on a clear theme, the council got to work. Ellery mentioned that while they had been planning and fundraising for prom since freshman year, getting everything organized was still a challenge. “It was difficult to get in touch with everyone,” she noted, explaining that coordinating communication within the council and across the grade to get input took more time than she thought it would. She also shared that the most difficult task was the seating arrangements. The council had to rely on forms submitted by students to organize the tables, which in turn made for a complicated logistics puzzle. Ultimately, though, everything worked out and the tables and buses were set.
The actual event took place on Saturday, April 25th, and we were lucky to have beautiful sunny weather. This allowed many groups to head to downtown Milwaukee for photos before the festivities officially began. In the early afternoon, the Grand March took place in the main gym. Akunna Chioma was crowned Prom King, and despite a funny mix-up, Jackson McGurn was crowned Prom King.
After the march, students took buses to Saint Kate’s Hotel for dinner and the dance. The menu this year offered a choice of chicken, steak, or cauliflower, followed by a chocolate dessert. After dinner, the dance floor opened up. The DJ, Mr. Fuchs, played a mix of current and classic hits, with songs by artists like Pitbull, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber.
The evening didn’t end there; around midnight, the buses took the junior class back to the school for post-prom. Hosted by the PTO in the aux gym, the event kept the Gatsby theme going with a black-and-gold color scheme. The PTO provided a variety of filling options like sub sandwiches, along with snacks like fruit and cookies and a refreshing punch bowl. It was a well-organized end to the night, providing a relaxed environment for everyone to hang out and play games like ping-pong and participate in the raffle. Overall, it was a great day that left our class with plenty of good memories.
