Homecoming is the annual dance event that all BCHS students look forward to, and this year was no exception. On Saturday night, BC students put on their sparkly formal attire and gogo boots and got groovy at the disco-themed dance, hosted in the auxiliary gym. Last school year, students voted on the 2024 homecoming theme, with the choices being: Night in Paris, Disco, Decades, and Y2K. When asked why she voted for “Disco” over other themes, Marika Carvalho (‘25) answered, “I feel as though Disco is very authentic and it brings a lot of personality out of a person”. To start the week, the senior and junior girls competed in the annual Powderpuff game, where the Class of 2025 defeated the Juniors 29-6. However, the Class of 2026 is already preparing for their victory next school year.
In addition to the Powderpuff Game, Homecoming Spirit Week is a fan favorite amongst all students; however, this year, some teachers were equally, if not more excited than their students. As an incentive for participation, 4th block classrooms with the highest percentage of participation would be in the running to win a pizza party. On Monday, staff and students rolled out of bed and headed to BC with fuzzy socks, slippers, and comfortable pajamas. The next day, students coordinated their outfits with each other for “Twin Day”. Wednesday had teachers and students learning about 70’s fashion while on Thursday, students showed up in their polos, college gear, tennis skirts, and baseball caps, representing the collegiate Greek life experience. Finally, each grade dressed according to their class color, with seniors wearing pink, juniors wearing blue, sophomores wearing gray, and freshmen wearing white.
Every Friday football game has students rushing to the student section, and the Homecoming game was no different. Students dressed in their beach gear, brought water guns and water balloons, and headed to the Harrison Thomas Stadium to watch the Lancers play against the Oconomowoc Raccoons. In addition, the Boys Cross Country team delivered the game ball, running from Oconomowoc High School to Harrison-Thomas Stadium. During the game, the seniors on Homecoming Court paraded around the track in shopping carts while throwing candy at students in the Student Section. Although the Lancers lost, students were still ecstatic, anticipating the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen. When asked about their inspirational quotes after being crowned, Homecoming King Giovanni Bean (‘25) said “Everybody hate the kid till the kid start doing something”. Meanwhile, Homecoming Queen Avni Verma quotes renowned actor Timothee Chalamet: “You can be the master of your fate and you can be the captain of your soul, but you have to realize that life is coming from you and not at you”.
On Saturday night, students got the Saturday Night Fever and headed to take some pictures with their friends before arriving at Brookfield Central for the actual dance. Some popular locations for pictures included: Mitchell Park, Frame Park, backyards, and downtown Milwaukee. As the popularity of film cameras and digital cameras has skyrocketed in the last year, many students used those devices in addition to the “Camera” app on their phones to take pictures. At the dance, students enjoyed jumping in the mosh pit to popular songs. Senior Jash Mirani’s “favorite song of the dance was No Hands by Waka Flocka Flame”.
It’s safe to say all students had a great time throughout Homecoming Week, from dressing up on spirit days to spraying each other with water at the football game. Fortunately, students will have another opportunity to participate in similar festivities throughout the school year at Prom, Senior Ball, and Spring Fling.
