Following DECA’s district competition on December 18th, 52 qualifying members will compete at the State Career Development Conference (SCDC) from February 26th to 28th. At Districts, members competed in individual or partner events in 4 main clusters: Finance, Marketing, Business Administration, and Hospitality & Tourism. Competitors were given spontaneous business roleplay scenarios to demonstrate their 21st-century skills and ability to think on their feet. All in all, the District competition was a success and demonstrated the passion that BC DECA has for business.

Sahil Hansaria (‘27), joined DECA because he “heard about the club from his peers and is interested in connecting with others who are also passionate about business”.

For those qualifying for SCDC, the season isn’t over yet. Competitors will also work on a project that aligns with their career cluster interests. Each project requires an in-person presentation along with a 10-20 page typed paper detailing their proposal or campaign for their given prompt. Currently, the lancers participating at SCDC are finalizing their papers, designing their posters, and practicing their presentations.

Avni Verma (‘25) states, “I think it is something that everyone is looking forward to, but we are also stressed about making it to ICDC (International Career Development Conference).” This is Verma’s second year competing in DECA and her hard work and dedication brought her to compete at ICDC in April of 2023.

Every year, SCDC is hosted at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, which not only acts as a great competition venue but also an area for fun Abbie Welch (‘26) enjoys going to Starbucks every morning before she competes.

As of 2024, the teacher in charge of BC’s DECA club, Mrs. Fisher,  has been involved for more than 14 years and has brought students to the international competition every year. She also works with LAUNCH students who are interested in Global Business.

Everyone is excited about competing at SCDC this year with hopes of qualifying for ICDC, hosted in Anaheim, California this year!
